Mission Location: Bird City, KS
Description:
CAMA-C deployed on a supercell just north of of Bird City, KS. CAMA deployed twice. The first time was with DOW7 on hwy 61 north of Bird City. A ragged wall cloud was observed at this location viewed to the west. CAMB deployed with DOW5 south of DOW7 on hwy 61. CAMC deployed with DOW6 on hwy 36 south of DOW5’s position. CAMB and CAMC observed a similar visual appearance of the updraft and wall cloud as CAMA. CAMA’s second deployment was with NOXP on hwy 36 east of Bird City. During the time CAMA was traveling from DOW7 to NOXP, the target storm was merging with a cell to the south. By the time CAMA deployed with NOXP, the merger was nearly complete resulting in a horse shoe-shaped updraft with strong convergence at the gust front. Little rotation was observed at low levels.
HD video and DSLR imagery were collected by all three photogrammetry teams.
